MUGA
Writing Desk for PORADA
2018 Contest Proposal
When we, as designers, adress a furniture project, usually one of the first thoughts is
always concerning ergonomy. Naoto Fukasawa, for example, has a particular vision over objects:
rounded shapes and forms are used for objects that are in close relationship with the person,
while this rounded shapes give way to straighter lines when objects are more related to our living
space and walls.
In my reflection for this exercise, as a creative, I wanted to free myself of the constrains
of the space, as I choosed to focus principally over the writing desk and, inspired by my partner
(writer that loves to work not looking to the wall but with a free landscape in front), I decided
to get rid of the traditional straight lines of a table and to work on this project guided by the
ergonomic reach of a person while working.
My project adresses the hospitality industry principally, while has room for high and private
use. It has a sense of temporarity in some of its uses, having thought some of the functions as a
place that is used “part” time, during a short period of time or where you would not establish an
office, that´s why there is no place to hide cables or chargers but has an in-built power rack.
As wood lovers and following Porada´s tradition with wood, craftmanship through form
and traditional joints has been a key detail that we have curated during this project. Keeping a
minimal soul we have worked on shapes that follow the performace we wanted to confer to our
design.
The main material required in this project would be wallnut, then there are some auxiliar
materials as plastic, electrical plugs, usb, electric transformer and furniture fittings.
